Robert Steven "Bobby" Singer owns and operates a car salvage yard in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. When his wife became possessed, he stabbed her in self defense. Rufus Turner came barging in, and exorcised the demon. This was Bobby's introduction into the supernatural. Since he was a regular hunter already, when Bobby became a Hunter his skills were usable against the supernatural. He became friends with John Winchester, and the boys - Dean and Sam. Last time he saw John, there was a disagreement and he threatened to shoot him full of buckshot, cocking the shotgun.

Trivia

Character Trivia 9

  • Eric Kripke had originally wanted to bring Missouri Moseley back in the show for the season finale Devil's Trap. However, there was a scheduling conflict with the actress Loretta Devine, so they created a new father figure for Dean and Sam - Bobby. Jim Beaver was instantly thought of to play him.
  • "For me, the character was avuncular, paternal and crusty and at that point of the show I was sort of this young lieutenant in homicide, vomiting in the corner. The two people that were like father-figures and showing me the ropes were Bob (Singer) and Kim (Manners). Actually the character's name originally was 'Bobby Manners'. But when the name went through legal clearance they said that there was a real 'Bobby Manners' that lived in South Dakota. And if legal finds things like that, you have to change the name. So I made it 'Singer'. And Bob, to his eternal chagrin, wasn't in that day. And when he came back he was all 'what the hell is this?!' At that point it was a done deal. And that's how Bobby Singer got his name." - Eric KripkePaleyfest 2011
  • The producer Robert Singer has been heard to say that if he had realized just how popular Bobby Singer would become, he would have fought adding the last name of Singer. He personally gets upset with the idea that people might be thinking he named a character after himself.
  • Jim is not allowed to make up lines. Although he did not think "balls" or "idjit" would go over well with the fans. His made up lines are on the gag reel.
  • "No one told me anything about Bobby's trajectory early on, because Bobby didn't have one, as far as I know. I was hired for one episode, "Devil's Trap," and no one ever said anything to me about another appearance. Of course, the crew made several references to the fact that Bobby hadn't died, so it was very possible I might come back, but nothing official was ever said to me." - Jim BeaverVariety, 'Supernatural' at 200: The Road So Far, An Oral History
  • Bobby Singer was only supposed to be in one episode of Supernatural, Devil's Trap. However, Jim Beaver's character proved so popular that he ended up appearing or mentioned in every season so far.
  • Jim Beaver's favorite line: "Get off my property before I fill you so full of rock salt you crap Margaritas."
  • The first time Jensen Ackles directed Jim Beaver, in the Bobby-centered episode Weekend at Bobby's, Jim said it was great. He told Jensen after the episode was finished, "In my whole career, I have never been any more secure with a director than with him. He was grade A prepared, and decisive, and obviously he knows how to work with actors. It was splendid." He would work with Jensen as a director again in a second.Supernatural Paleyfest 2011, interview by Hollywookiee.com
  • The day of filming his TV wife Karen's death was incredibly difficult for him, because of the death of his own wife. He went back to the hotel and felt like a bowl of jello.

  • Bobby's father's last words to him were, "You break everything you touch."
  • Bobby was married to Karen. Three days before Karen was possessed, they fought over having children and did not talk afterwards. Bobby was afraid that he would ruin any children he might have.
  • John would occasionally drop off the boys to go off on another hunt. Sam mentions "Uncle Bobby" in December 1991, so Bobby started taking care of the boys before then. He gave Sam the amulet that Sam gives Dean for Christmas. Bobby took the boys on deer hunting trips and he played catch in the park.

  • Bobby taught Dean and Sam the "non-agreement" for in case one of them is dying, the other would not go looking for the first. However, it became an unspoken rule to do the exact opposite, as he was angry that Sam didn't go looking for Dean when he was stuck in Purgatory.
  • Bobby's last word to the boys was "Idjits". (Death's Door)
  • Bobby is the third spirit to be seen after their remains have been burned; the first being Mary Winchester, the second was John Winchester. He is the first ghost whose final fate after the burning of his remains is revealed.
  • Bobby spent approximately 150 years in Hell, He, too, kept his humanity and avoided becoming a demon; the first one was John Winchester, who also spent approximately 100 years and also escaped Hell with his humanity intact.
  • Like all members of Team Free Will, Bobby has been to Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven. Only Dean has also been to Avalon.
  • Bobby is shown by an actress in Fan Fiction saying Bobby's infamous line - "Idjit". Dean also mentions to Marie that they lost Bobby, and Maeve mentions Bobby saying Sam and Dean are more of Bobby/Rufus combo. At the end of the stage show the actress Bobby sings Carry on My Wayward Son onstage, alongside the rest of the Winchesters and Adam, after being wheel onstage in her wheelchair.
  • In Inside Man, on Bobby's door to his private heaven is a nameplate that reads "Robert Singer 1950-2012". His private heaven is also a replica of his house.
  • Bobby is the only character outside of Dean and Sam that has appeared in every season, up through season 11.
  • There is a book called Bobby Singer's Guide to Hunting, written by David Reed from Bobby's point of view.
  • Bobby shows up in the tie-in books Supernatural: Bone Key, Supernatural: Heart of the Dragon, Supernatural: Night Terror, Supernatural: Rite of Passage, and Supernatural: Fresh Meat.
  • Jared, when asked, said that he would wish Bobby could be brought back. He kept the boys on an even keel. Jensen mentioned that Bobby was a home base, an emotional home base, as well as a father figure. Bobby or John would top the list to be brought back for Jensen.DC Con 2015
